Homecoming 2019

This year’s homecoming was definitely one to remember.

To start the week off, on Monday, all of the boys were able to showcase their volleyball skills at Rock Solid. The juniors played the sophomores first and came out victorious in two quick sets. The juniors then moved onto play in the championship against the seniors. It was a close match between the two teams, but the junior boys were able to win in three sets.

On Tuesday, the volleyball teams traveled to Oskaloosa. The varsity team fell just short of a victory in five sets. Both boys and girls cross country teams also competed on Tuesday. The top 7 JV runners from each team traveled to ADM. The girls placed 4th as a team. The boys’ team placed 6th overall and had four PR’s. The swim team also had a meet in Ottumwa, with a great showing from all of the swimmers.

On Wednesday, the girls had their time to shine on the football field during the powderpuff games. The first game was between the seniors and sophomores. The seniors were able to pull out a win, which also happened to be their first powderpuff win ever. During the next game, the teachers beat the juniors. In the game for 3rd place, the sophomores played the juniors and won in sudden death. In the championship game, the seniors played tough against the teachers. Despite their efforts, the teachers emerged victorious for the second year in a row.

On Thursday, the cross country teams had another meet. For the first time, they traveled to Roland-Story, and many of the runners had PR’s or season-best times. The girls’ team won the meet, beating the team in second by 53 points! Eleven of the girls received medals. The varsity boys also took first at the meet, beating the team in second by nine points. Five of the seven boys received medals. The JV boys also won the meet, with four medalists.

On Friday, the football team had a very strong win against Carlisle. The Warriors won 41-30. This win kept the War-Cat Trophy in Norwalk.

To finish off the week on Saturday, before the homecoming dance, the swim team hosted their Pink in the Pool Invite at Lincoln. The swimmers and divers were able to edge Roosevelt and get a final win during homecoming week.

Without a doubt, this year’s homecoming was definitely one to remember.
