Prom Season

The big day is almost here! We have over a month before Norwalk’s Prom. There’s still plenty of time to make final touches to plans and purchase any items needed. Prom season can be stressful so here’s a few suggestions to help plan your perfect night!
Jewelry
At the moment, big department stores are discounting their jewelry so they can get more in stock for this Spring. Stores like Charming Charlie, Dillards, and Francesca’s all have jewelry sales going on right now. Prom can get expensive so buying affordable, fancy jewelry is a great way to save some cash
Flowers
Hyvee on Fleur and Hyvee on Mills Civic are cheap places to purchase quality corsages and boutonnieres. You have to pay a set fee for the flower, but Hyvee has additional floral decorations available to purchase if you want give your flower a fun twist. Hyvee has a great selection of flowers including roses, carnations, daisies, lilies, and orchids. They do get a lot of corsage and boutonniere orders so I would make sure to order flowers 2-3 weeks before prom.
Alterations
Norwalk’s very own Emma Peterson from the Norwalk Independent Fashion group is in business for prom dress alterations. Her price range is between $20-35 depending on what needs to be done to the dress. If you are interested in having her do your dress alterations, contact her on instagram or twitter @emmakpetersonn
Photos
There are few places in West Des Moines and Des Moines that have gorgeous scenery. If you want a cool pop of color, graffiti walls can be found around the Des Moines Social Club. Valley Junction has a mix of pops of color along with retro style buildings for a backdrop. East Village in Des Moines also has fun retro styled buildings (along with the capital) and fun pieces of art. For art lovers, I recommend taking pictures at John Pappajohn’s Sculpture Park. If you are interested in having a nature background, Water Works, the Botanical Center, and Grey’s Lake are filled with beautiful flowers in the Springtime.
Tuxes
If you don’t own a tux, no worries! There are plenty of places in the Des Moines area that allow you to rent a tux for the night. Yelp suggests places like Men’s Warehouse, Skeffington’s Formal Wear, and Milroy’s Tuxedos are the top three places to rent tuxes. I personally have been to Men’s Warehouse to help my prom date pick out a tux. The service was very helpful, and the renting process took less than 30 minutes.
Dinner Reservations
There are plenty of good places to eat at nearby for a reasonable price. If you don’t want to spend over $15 for a meal, Spaghetti Works is usually a popular place to go to. Places like Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse, Bravo, The Cheesecake Factory, Centro, Biaggi’s, Latin King, and Firebirds all fall in the $20 range per person. However, The Cheesecake Factory and Centro don’t usually take big reservations so you need to call them ahead of time if you are interested in eating there. If you want high quality restaurants and don’t care about how much you pay, the restaurants Fleming’s, Des Moines Chophouse, and The Des Moines Embassy Club are divine places for a prom meal.
