Girls NHS Track 2019 Season is Right Around the Corner ...

Updated: Feb 27, 2019

With all of these snow storms, school cancellations, and intensely cold temperatures, it doesn’t seem like the spring is near. But that doesn’t stop the Norwalk High School girls track team from getting ready for their 2019 season. The girls began practicing almost two weeks ago and haven’t slowed down yet. Monday, February 25th is when their daily practices begin.

Clearly, the track is not up and ready for the runners but the hallways, middle school gym, and weight room are all good enough for these ladies as of now. With their first indoor meet soon approaching, they have not stopped working since the beginning of February. The annual Grinnell indoor meet will take place on Thursday, March 7th. The warm weather may seem far away but the girls continue to keep a positive mindset when working towards their season goals.

Not only is working out a key factor in getting ready for the season but eating healthy is very important as well. Cutting down on junk food is crucial when trying to reach running goals, it only slows you down. Healthy snacks are essential as well. Some suggested foods before or near a run are bananas, oats, peanut butter, broccoli, plain yogurt, and of course anything whole grain. Staying ‘carbed up’ is a must as well, but at the same time reminding yourself good carbs are better carbs is always important. Whole wheat pasta, bread, brown rice and so on, are the best options when getting your carbs in.

There are many other tips and tricks on staying healthy during track season but eating healthy and working hard towards those running goals are the top two. The lady warriors are extremely excited to get this season started. As a member of the track team, I know that we remind ourselves of each practice what we are working for. Like I mentioned earlier, keeping a positive mindset is crucial in achieving what we want. This season is going to be one of the best yet and we’re all excited to get the show on the road.
