5 Bizarre Movie Fan Theories

Updated: Mar 21, 2019

Ah, the internet. A place where you can find anything from how to make brownies to vine compilations. It’s also a place where you can crazed movie fans who obviously have way too much time on their hand or are procrastinating in order to think about beloved films way too much. After scouring the world wide web for quite some time, I found some...interesting fan theories. Here are 5 of them, in order from interesting to utterly shocking.

Sidenote: This article contains spoilers (obviously) and may or may not ruin your childhood. You have been warned.

*DISCLAIMER: None of these theories are my original ideas! Each theory is based on multiple internet sources with some details of my own.

There have been many theories surrounding Disney Pixar’s Toy Story and its sequels, but I’m only going to cover one of them. Many people think that Andy’s mom is actually the previous owner of Jessie the cowgirl. One website even suggests that you can tell this by the red hat Andy wears. During the When she Loved Me scene in Toy Story 2, you can see a red hat very similar to Andy’s on the bed of the girl who previously owned Jessie. The only difference is the white hat band on the hat, just like Jessie’s. But maybe the hat band fell off or got taken off by Andy? Who knows?

Back to the Future is probably one of my favorite films. It is one of the most iconic movies of all time, so it's no surprise that there are some intriguing theories about it. This one, in particular, suggests that the flux capacitor, the device that makes time travel possible, also makes the time- traveling Delorean alive. Screen Rant gives many examples of why people think this. For example, the Delorean stopped right in front of the large sign that Marty hides the car behind when he gets to 1955. This car could have stopped at any random place, yet it happened to stop at the perfect hiding spot. This supports the idea that the car is alive. The reason this theory is at the number 4 spot is that to me, it seems a little far fetched since the movie is so science driven.

The Harry Potter books are some of the most loved of all time, so it was risky to try and turn them into movies. Warner Brothers did not disappoint. I love the Harry Potter movies, but this next theory was interesting. It suggests that the reason the Dursleys hated Harry so much is because he was corrupting them. What the theory is basically saying is that when Voldemort tried to kill Harry when he was little, he became a Horcrux. As The Things said in one article, Horcruxes corrupt whoever they’re around. For example, Harry, Ron, and Hermione were turned against each other because of a Horcrux. Ginny did Voldemort’s bidding because of a Horcrux. Maybe this is the reason the Dursleys hated Harry so much. In any case, however, it’s still not Harry’s fault. A video by Harry Potter and the Sacred Text on Youtube gives another side to Petunia Dursley if you are really interested in this topic.

Ah yes. Frozen. When you first saw it you either loved it, hated it, or just didn’t get what all the hype was about. Whatever your opinion on this smash-hit, this theory might catch your attention. We all know that Anna and Elsa’s parents died right? But what if they didn’t? What if they washed up on an island and gave birth to Anna and Elsa’s older sister Tarzan? The best part about this theory; It’s been confirmed that it’s true! The Things said that the director of Frozen confirmed this theory. So the real question we should be asking is, was this planned all along, or did the directors just go along with what the movie fanatics thought?

The darkest yet sadly not surprising theory was saved for last. It’s no secret that Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory starring the late Gene Wilder (rest in peace) is a little odd… ok VERY odd, but what can you expect from a movie that's based on a Roald Dahl book? Anyway, many people believe that Wonka is actually a cold-blooded murderer. Screen Rant brought up in a video that there is no seat left for Augustus Gloop on the candy boat after he is sucked up a glass tube, suggesting that his “accident” was planned. Not to mention the really creepy tunnel scene with cheesy yet frightening projections on the wall. Also, is it a coincidence that all of the kids except Charlie are total brats? Probably not, but that’s a story for another time. Anyway, maybe the children were eventually escorted out of or left the factory after they all dropped like flies. However, this does not explain the fact that we don’t see the children after they disappear, like in the 2005 version of the story with Johnny Depp. I guess we may never know if Wonka was a killer or not….
