As many of us, high schoolers know, school can become very stressful. Tons of homework for both high school and college classes, relationship drama, extracurricular activities and plenty more. Nothing is better than looking forward to a relaxing night after the school day is all over. Many people prefer different ways to relax, depending on who they are, but I found some go-to chill time things to do that everyone should love!
An article from Nivea.com lists some great ways to get started with your ‘me time’. The first and probably most important step is to schedule your downtime. Prioritizing your relaxing time and making it a specific goal to do so will only help you in the future. It doesn’t have to be anything drastic, something as simple as making sure you give yourself 10-20 minutes after school to relax can do wonders. Another obvious, yet difficult tip is to disconnect. Staying away from your phone, tv or computer can be hard for people these days but doing so only increases your chance of fully relaxing. Taking a warm shower or bath can always help to relax. As said in the article I mentioned above, doing this helps “wash away all the tension from your body.”
Most people don’t think exercising can be a form of relaxation, but for many, it’s the complete opposite. As the article states, partaking in physical activity releases endorphins. Stress will be lifted off your shoulders with even the slightest amount of activity. Some also might not think getting out of the house can help relax a person as well. Staying all cooped up inside doesn’t always mean relaxation. Going outside into nature can be a life-changer. Getting fresh air and time to just roam and look helps so many with stress and just getting things off your mind in general.
As you can tell, there are many easy and helpful ways to take a break from all the madness and focus on yourself. It doesn’t have to be much, these tips clearly showed that relaxing comes in many forms. There are many more to consider but the ones I listed have helped me and many other peers around me. Staying in touch with yourself and your happiness can sometimes be even more important than homework, sports, etc. Relaxation is key to a happy and healthy person, so use these to better yourself inside and out!
